Bighorn River Last Week of June Fishing Report

It is the last week of June already and summer is officially here. The river is fishing well, but not great. We are eagerly awaiting the emergence of some of our summertime hatches as water temps slowly begin to climb we hope for insect activity to increase accordingly.

Nymph fishing continues to be the name of the game; scud and sowbug patterns are producing the most fish. Small mayfly patterns and midge pupa are producing a few fish also. We hope to see the presence of PMD nymphs in the next week or two, followed by some rising trout. In the meantime anglers looking to get their dry fly fix will have to blind fish terrestrial patterns in likely areas.

Water conditions are excellent for wading with flows around 2300 cfs. The river is increasingly mossy the further down river you get towards Bighorn Access. Be prepared to use the Bighorn weed slap – clean drifts equal fish.

Top Fly Patterns – UV Scud, Tailwater Sowbug, Bighorn Scud, Natural Sowbug, Squirmy Worms, Two Tone Worms, Perdigons and Tungteasers
