Spring fishing is in full swing on the Big Horn River. As expected with low snowpack throughout the region water flows are lower than normal. Current flows are 1500 cfs. Fishing in side

channels is limited, the main channel is in great shape. There is some weed growth on the bottom of the river, the further you get down river(closer to Bighorn Access) the more it becomes a factor. The big fish from last year have held over nicely, with anglers putting fishing in the 20 inch range routinely.
Nymph fishing is producing the best results. Natural colored sowbug and orange scuds should be your bread and butter when nymph fishing. A Midge Pupa or Blue Winged Olive Nymph will work well beneath your top fly. A 3/4 inch strike indictor placed 7 feet above your weight ( lead or tungsten) will work well in most runs. Weight does not need to be heavy especially when bugs are emerging and trout are feeding throughout the water column. UV Scuds, Tailwater Sowbugs, orange slushy, perdigons, foamy homies, wonder nymphs and similar will work when nymph fishing
Dry fly fishing is isolated, but present. Keep your eyes peeled in soft edges and you can find a few risers during emergences of midges and baetis. Smokejumpers, cripple Thors, students and midge pupa dropped below your dry will get it done.
Streamer fishing is good on cloudy days. Natural colors streamers like a thin mint, or micro articulated streamers have been producing.
